Welcome to the 6th Newport Scout Group

ScoutsWelcome to the 6th Newport (St Julian's) Scout Group! The group is located in Newport, South Wales, and caters for Beavers, Cubs and Scouts aged from 6 - 14 years old.

6th Newport Scout Group was formed on the 17th of October 1922, the longest running scout group in Gwent, and has been very active since. Scouting provides adventurous activities and personal development opportunities for young people aged 6-25. It was recently recorded that 6th Newport has the largest of amount of youth members in Newport.

Our headquarters are located at Bank Street, where we host lots of public events such as our annual fete and hog roasts!

Scout Summer Fête - 13th of June 2009

We would like to thank all of those who attended our annual scout summer fête. To compliment the fantastic weather, we made over £750! We would also like to thank GLD Dancing who preformed an impressive dance routine throughout the fête which no doubt impressed all of those who attended! The bouldering wall which we introduced this year has proved to be a hit with the younger ones, and we'll make sure that it returns next year! Congratulations to everyone who won a prize on our raffle.

Scout water bills could tripple from 2010 - help stop the rain tax

Ofwat

Water regulator Ofwat has instructed water companies to use a new way of charging Scout Groups for draining the water that falls on their property. This could cost our scout group (and other scout groups across the country) £500 a year or more, regardless of the amount of water used.

This tax threatens scout activities up and down the country.

Please support The Scout Association's campaign to help stop this rain tax. Sign up at http://www.scouts.org.uk/water, speak up by writing to Ofwat, or show up to The Scout Association's lobby of Parliament on St Swithun's Day (15th July).

Sainsbury's Active Kids - We're collecting now!

Sainsbury's Active Kids - We're collecting now!Yet again, we have signed up to the Sainsbury's Active Kids Scheme, collecting vouchers for games and sports equipment. In previous years, we have collected in excess of 3000 vouchers, which enabled the group to buy basketball nets, tennis balls, juggling sets, volleyball equipment and other games.

We would be grateful if you could ask your friends and relatives to collect the vouchers for us. A box for depositing vouchers will be available in the scout hall, or you can hand the vouchers into your section leader.

Our target this year is to collect 4000 vouchers; we have until May to reach this target, let's all try to beat this so we can buy more great equipment for Beavers, Cubs and Scouts.
